ACCIDENTS HAPPEN ARE YOU SAFE ON THE LIRR? DO YOU FEEL THE LIRR SHOULD ADD MEDICAL KITS AND DEFIBILLATORS?
Worst Train Crash Researched by Nancy Cataldi
The following article was found here at www.lihistory.com written by Michael Dorman
During a Thanksgiving eve rush in 1950, one train hit another, killing 78 riders in Richmond Hill, NY
AP Photo- Emergency crews and others gather at the scene of the 1950 tragedy; a train that had stopped in Queens was rammed by one bound for Babylon.
It is Thanksgiving eve, 1950, in Manhattan's bustling Penn Station. Dolores Barnes, 30, and her husband, John, 31, meet as they do every night after finishing work -- she as a manicurist, he as a transport company expediter. Right on schedule, they board the 6:09 train for Hempstead. They plan to spend the evening at their Levittown home preparing the next day's turkey dinner with Dolores Barnes' mother, visiting from Havana.
John Steinheuser, 21, and Bernard Bahn, 31, usually take earlier trains. But both are running late this night, so they catch the first available Hempstead train -- the 6:09.
Among others meeting at the station are George Brown, 46, a purchasing director from Baldwin, and his 18-year-old son, Stephen, coming home from college for the holiday. They catch the 6:13 train for Babylon.
When the Hempstead train approaches Jamaica -- passing signal block J in Richmond Hill -- engineer William Murphy reduces speed to 15 mph. Then, for some reason, the air brakes lock. Murphy can't release them. The train rolls to a stop. Murphy tries repeatedly to get it moving again, but it will not budge. The 6:09 is stalled out there in the darkness.
It is 6:32. The train bound for Babylon, after leaving Penn Station four minutes behind the Hempstead train, now comes barreling down the tracks at about 65 mph.
Suddenly, with a cataclysmic boom, it slams into the rear of the stalled train -- precipitating the worst train wreck in Long Island history, the worst in New York State history and the worst in the nation since 1943. The shuddering impact sends the front of the onrushing train plunging down the middle of the other train's last car -- cutting it in half lengthwise as if sliced by a giant cleaver and driving it 15 feet into the air.
In moments, death, destruction and chaos descend on the lonely trackside. Dolores Barnes is dead. John Barnes is dead. George Brown is dead. Stephen Brown is dead. John Steinheuser is dead. Bernard Bahn is dead. Seventy-two others are either dead or dying. Those who survived offered anguished accounts. Harold Rosenberg, 34, was riding in the last car of the Hempstead train. "I saw a terrific red flash and felt a jolt like an atom bomb,'' he told a reporter. He fell to the floor. He was bleeding from the mouth and nose.
"People were lying all about, screaming in pain,'' Rosenberg said. "Others beat frantically at doors and windows, which were jammed shut. Seconds later, neighbors from across the way arrived at the scene with ladders and jimmied open the doors and started to take out the injured.''
Arthur Kearney, 28, a tax analyst, said the crash came seconds after the conductor on the Hempstead train signaled the train was ready to go if Murphy could get it moving. "Just when he gave two short peeps on his whistle, the train from behind hit us,'' Kearney
said. "It threw me up against the roof. The lights went out. Women started screaming. The chap behind me was either unconscious or dead. I managed to crawl to a broken window on the left side of the train. I looked out and found myself about 15 feet above the ground. In the train under us, all I could see was parts of bodies, arms and legs protruding from the windows. I took a chance and dropped to the tracks below, just between two third rails.''
Robert Kopple of Roslyn said, "The front of the train that struck us looked as though it was wearing an overcoat -- the rear car of our train.''
Within minutes, fire trucks, ambulances and police cars -- sirens screaming -- raced to the scene. Searchlights were hastily erected. Heavy railroad wrecking equipment was dispatched to pry victims from the twisted remains. When the ambulances proved insufficient, station wagons were pressed into service to carry survivors to hospitals. In some cases, there was not time to reach the hospitals.
Surgeons converted a nearby house into a makeshift operating room -- working under an unshaded light bulb on a kitchen table covered with a sheet.
Those less seriously injured were wrapped in blankets and placed on stretchers near the tracks. Many lay side by side with the dead.
Emergency calls went out for blood donations. By midnight, nearly 1,000 donors appeared.
Days later, six local, state and federal agencies launched investigations. Hearings produced sharp criticism of both railroad policies and the performance of LIRR employees. There was testimony that the railroad -- with government approval -- had abandoned using an automatic safety device that would have cut the Babylon train's speed to 15 mph and reduced the disastrous crash to a slight bump. The Queens district attorney's office at first faulted the stalled train's engineer for failing to order his brakeman to flag down the Babylon train, but a few weeks later blamed the Babylon train's engineer for disregarding a stop-and-proceed signal.

Years later, an LIRR official who was on the stalled train said a flagman had been dispatched.
In an exhaustive report, the state Public Service Commission ordered sweeping reforms -- among them placing a conductor or brakeman with the engineer in the front car of every electric train and tightening physical requirements. "The consummation of the steps taken by this and other agencies should reduce to a minimum the consequences of human imperfection,'' the commission said.
That confidence aside, accidents would nonetheless continue to occur on the Long Island Rail Road. But, to date at least, none would be nearly so deadly as the night of horror on that doomed stretch of tracks in Richmond Hill.

WHEN THE COMMUTER WAS RIGHT AND THE RAIL ROAD WAS A FRIEND TO ITS RIDERS
RONKONKOMA STATION LATE 1950s THE BRIDGE IS THE OLD BRIDGE THAT WAS REPLACED IN THE 1980s AND THE ROAD WAS REDONE TO CARRY MORE TRAFFIC FROM THE TWO LANE ROAD IT WAS. THE BRIDGE WAS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN THE ROADBED WAS MADE OF WOOD PLANK AND TWO CARS COULD BARELY PASS EACH OTHER.
WHEN THE RAILROAD RIPPED THE WHOLE AREA APART THEY BULLDOZED THE TOPLESS BAR "BIRDS PLACE" AND SOME OTHER CHOICE PLACES, THE WHITE GAS STATION BUILDING WAS ON THE CORNER AND AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BRIDGE AND WAS A GAS STATION, THE OLD STATION A BRICK BUILDING WITH A WAITING ROOM WITH BENCHES ATTACHED TO THE WALLS WAS OPEN ALL THE TIME AND WHEN BOARDING THE TRAIN YOU HAD TO STEP UP AND CLIMB INTO THE TRAIN CARS, AND THE LIRR RAN A BAR CAR AND SMOKING CARS DURING RUSH HOUR! YOU COULD ACTUALLY WALK THROUGH THE TRAIN AND STEP INTO THE BAR CAR AND HANG OUT LIKE IT WAS THE LOCAL WATERING HOLE. THE LIRR DID AWAY WITH THESE COMFORTS THE TRAIN FARE WAS REASONABLE AND THE RAIL ROAD ACTUALLY TOOK CARE OF THE COMMUTER! IMAGINE THAT!! NOW GETTING IN TO YOUR STATION ON TIME IS A LUXURY! WHEN I THINK ABOUT IT IS TOTALLY UNBELIEVABLE THAT THE RAIL ROAD TOOK CARE OF THE COMMUTER WITH THESE LUXURIES AND DID IT WITH LESS MONEY!

ARE THESE GUYS ARMED TO PROTECT US OR TO PROTECT THE GOVERMENTS ASSETS ?
PENNSYLVANIA STATION HAS BEEN THROUGH A LOT PRESIDENT FORD TELLING NYC TO DROP DEAD THE DAVID DINKINS CRACK DECADE, VIOLENCE AND CORRUPTION INVOLVING THE LIRR ALL THE WAY BACK TO 1840 BUT I NEVER THROUGH THE BADDEST DAYS OF 9/11 THOUGHT THAT PLACES LIKE PENN STA. WOULD BECOME AN ARMED OUTPOST WITH ACTIVE MILITARY HOME FROM THE WAR ON TERROR CARRYING M-16 ASSAULT RIFLES THE HEAVY BODY ARMOR NYPD ALL DRESSED IN BLACK WITH SUBMACHINE GUNS< BAG CHECKS AND THE LOSS OF PRIVACY THAT LIRR ANNOUNCES EVERY TRAIN RIDE "ALL BAGS ARE SUBJECT TO INSPECTION, X-RAY MACHINES SET UP, THE RADIOLOGICAL SNIFFERS PLACED THROUGHOUT THE STATION AND THE COMBAT BOOT WEARING K-9 UNITS PLACED ALL OVER PENN. THIS DOES NOT MAKE ME FEEL SAFER AT ALL, TERRORISTS BENT ON HARMING PEOPLE WILL DO IT AND ALL THIS POLICE STATE CRAP WILL NOT HELP EX. THE TWO JACK OFFS THAT GOT EXPLOSIVES ON PLANES BUT COULDNT DETONATE THEM SO IF THEY ARE COMING TO THE NYC TRANSIT AREAS THEY WILL DO THEIR THING AND ALL THIS BIG BROTHER CRAP WILL NOT STOP THEM. COULD YOU IMAGINE THESE ARMED PATROLS IN A GUNBATTLE IN PENN DURING A RUSH HOUR? THAT WOULD KILL MORE PEOPLE THAN A SHOE BOMB,I KNEW THINGS WERE NOT GOING TO BE THE SAME BUT NOT TO THIS EXTENT. I REALLY FEAR FOR OUR CIVIL AND CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS IN THE NEAR FUTURE AND THIS MOST LIKELY IS BUT A SMALL PART OF THE BIG BROTHER MENTALITY TO COME.

SUFFER AND PAY EVERY DAY!
this type of behavior is ongoing and these dirtbags get away with it,when it happens the train crew has to stop at a station and call 911 and wait while the problem leaves. where are all these security upgrades all these farehikes were supposed to pay for ? its not going into new trains, or seats (just the duct tape they use to fix them) no police on trains just at penn station and they are dressed like stormtroopers (submachine guns, black helmets, body armor, dogs) not on the train. when colin(colon) fergussen got on a ronkonkoma bound train and opened up with a pistol at merillion ave who subdued him? PASSENGERS!! there was not even basic first aid supplies to tend to those seriously wounded. passengers are doing cpr aiding other emergencys, throwing belligerent passengers off, helping people over the gap, and its not our friggen job (its great to help out) but at the cost to ride the train i shouldnt have to worry daily that i will get to work on time and home , my ride should be comfortable the air shouldnt smell like shit and stale beer, cockroaches shouldnt be living in the seats and this "lirr rider" john clifford shouldnt be on a train at all but remember thats our job to keep him off, ask a trainmen to do it and see his reply or watch him hide for the rest of the ride.

RONKONKOMA LIRR STATION "CASTLE GREYSKULL" MULTI MILLION DOLLAR STATION FALLING APART RIGHT BEFORE YOUR EYES PART ONE.!
THE PICTURES ABOVE SHOW THE LIRR STATION RONKONKOMA THE EASTERN TERMINUS FOR ELECTRIC TRAINS ON LONG ISLAND, THE PROJECT IS UNDER BUILT AND UNDER USED THE PLAN FOR A HUB CONNECTING THE LIRR MAIN BRANCH WITH THE AIRPORT ONE MILE SOUTH OF THE STATION AND THE LONG ISLAND EXPRESSWAY ONE HALF OF A MILE NORTH MAKING THE EASTERN TERMINUS A TRANSPORTATION HUB THAT COULD SERVE THE TRI STATE AREA WITH A AIRPORT THAT HAS JETS THAT FLY OUT OF IT JUST ABOUT ANYWHERE IN THE US AND THE LIE WITH IT"S BRAND NEW HOV LANE THAT WOULD EASE THE STATIONS TRAFFIC ON THE AREA ALSO SUNRISE HWAY IS @ MILES SOUTH BOTH IT AND THE LIE ARE USED TO HEAD INTO NYC VIA THE SOUTH SHORE AND THE LIE RUNNING THE LENGTH OF LIE> RONKONKOMA WAS TO HAVE OFFICE AND SHOPPING COMPLEX'S THAT WOULD HAVE LIRR ADMINISTRATION AND IT'S WORK CREWS HOUSED OUT AT RONKONKOMA OFFERING MORE WORK AND ATTENTION GIVEN THE EASTERN AREA OF THE RAILROAD, NOW IT LOOKS ALTHOUGH THEY ABANDONDED THE PLAN LOTS THAT WERE TO HOUSE LIRR BUILDINGS SIT OVERGROWN WITH WEEDS AND THE TERMINALS CONCRETE FALLING OFF THE STATION IN CHUNKS! WORK CREWS REMOVE THESE CHUNKS OF CONCRETE THAT ARE BREAKING OFF THE STATIONS PLATFORMS MOSS AND MILDEW HAVE INVADED THE STATIONS PLATFORM SUPPORTS. THE DAY THE PICTURE WAS TAKEN WHERE MOSS IS GROWING ON THE PLATFORM STANCHION WAS 101 DEGREES IN CENTRAL PARK AND WAS HOT AS HELL ! NO RAIN HAD FALLEN FOR THE LAST FIVE DAYS< BUT THIS MOSS AND MILDEW WAS WET AND DRIPPING ALMOST A MIRACLE SINCE THE NIGHT BEFORE WAS IN THE HIGH 80s AT 3 AM! THE STEEL AND METAL IS RUSTING AWAY AND THE PAINT COVERING THE IRON IS LONG GONE AND THE STEEL SUPPORTS ARE RUSTING AND THE PIGEONS THAT MAKE THEIR HOME AT THE STATION HAVE CRAPPED ALL OVER THE METAL THAT SUPPORTS THE WALKWAY OVER RAILROAD AVE! LIRR WORK CREWS REPAIRED CONCRETE MAY OF 2010 ON THE STAIRWELL WHERE HUGE CHUNKS APPEAR TO BE UNDERMINED BY WATER IN THE WINTER THAT FROZE AND IS TEARING THE STATION APART LITERALLY THE DECORATIVE PLANTERS THAT ARE NOT IN THE GENERAL AREA WHERE THEY COULD BE DAMAGED BY HUMANS ARE ALSO CHIPPING OFF CHUNKS AS SEEN IN THESE PHOTOS. WHO IS GOING TO WIND UP PAYING FOR THIS NEGLECTED AND FORGOTTEN PIECE OF CRAP THAT THE LIRR HAS LEFT TO ROT????? YOU,ME AND WHOEVER RIDES THIS RAILROAD, AND IF THIS IS HOW THEY USE THEIR MONEY WE GOT SCREWED AGAIN BY THE LIRR/MTA!

6/24 EXPRESS MADE LOCAL WITH OVERCROWDING TO THE POINT OF BEING DANGEROUS!!
NOW EVERYONE WANTS TO GO HOME AND GET THERE UNHARMED BUT DAYS LIKE THIS ARE RIPE FOR DISASTER AS PEOPLE STANDING IN AISLES, IN THE DOORWAYS, EVEN IN BATHROOMS! RIDERS WERE JERKED AROUND AS THE TRAIN SPEEDED UP AND SLOWED DOWN, IT WAS VERY HOT THAT THURSDAY AND WHEN YOU OVERPACK A TRAIN IT GETS HOT AND PEOPLE GET NASTY AS RIDERS ARGUED OVER HOW MANY PEOPLE FIT ON THE FOLD DOWN JUMP SEATS AND TO REALLY DIG SALT IN THE WOUND THIS TRAINMEN OR CONDUCTOR DECIDED TO PUSH HIS WAY THROUGH THE CARS AND COLLECT FARES FROM THOSE STANDING AND VERY AGITATED IN THIS AREA THIS COLLECTOR WAS RIDICULED AND TOLD TO GO F___ HIMSELF IF HE THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO COLLECT ANYTHING FROM THIS PARTICULAR GENTLEMEN WHO WAS STANDING SINCE PENN STA. AND MOVED AROUND AS THIS NOT VERY SMART TRAINMEN MADE HIS WAY COLLECTING FARES FROM THOSE STUCK STANDING, THIS TRAINMEN DECIDED IT WAS BEST TO MOVE ON BUT COULDNT GET THROUGH THE NEXT CAR AND HAD TO PUSH THROUGH THE GAUNTLET OF PASSENGERS AGAIN. MY PERSONAL OPINION ON THIS MATTER OF SHOULD A RIDER MADE TO STAND BECAUSE THE TRAIN WAS CHANGED AND MADE OVERCROWDED PAY TO STAND AND I DECIDED THAT I WOULD NOT PAY NEITHER AND IF IT MEANT GETTING THROWN OFF I'D GET OFF! THE LIRR HAS NO REPECT FOR PASSENGERS AND THIS IS ALSO OBVIOUS WHEN THEY POST A TRAIN ON A PENN, STA, PLATFORM AND ITS A SWELTERING 120 DEGREES DOWN THERE AND THE TRAIN IS STILL 10 MINUTES FROM PLATFORMING THIS IS VERY SCREWED UP AND POSSIBLY DANGEROUS AND WHEN SOMEONE FAINTS ON TO THE TRACK I WILL BE THERE TO TESTIFY AND SHOW PROOF OF THIS PRACTICE AND IF SOMEONE WERE TO BE INJURED ON OVERPaCKED TRAINS THAT THE LIRR KNOWS IS DANGEROUS I WILL ALSO BE THERE TO DO WHAT I CAN FOR THE COMMUTER INJURED, AND WHEN A COMMUTER FAILS TO PAY DUE TO OVERCROWDED CONDITIONs THAT FORCE HIM OR HER TO STAND I WILL BACK THAT COMMUTER UP AS MUCH AS IS LEGAL, THESE CONDITIONS AND PRACTICES BY THE LIRR/MTA WILL NOT STOP UNTIL THE RIDERS FORCE THEM AND AFTER 10 YEARS OF COMMUTING I KNOW THIS TO BE TRUE I ALSO KNOW THINGS HAVE NOT GOTTEN ANY BETTER IGNORING THEM.........
lirr,lirr sucks,mta,l,
fares,
lirr,
mta,
overcrowding,
trains
NEVER MIND FIRST AID KITS OR EVEN DEFIBILLATORS THE LIRR HAS GOT IT COVERED!
EVERY COMMUTER HAS WITNESSED A PASSENGER IN MEDICAL DISTRESS AND THE FEELING OF HELPLESSNESS BECAUSE THE LIRR DOES NOT CARRY ANY FIRST AID EQUIPMENT OR ADVANCED LIFESAVING EQUIPMENT THAT EVEN A JOINT LIKE McDONALDS WILL HAVE, FORGET THE NON EXSISTANT FIRE EXSTINGUISHERS THAT DISAPPEAR FROM TRAINS THE LIRR HAS ITS PASSENGERS COVERED BY STENCILING AN AREA ON THE ROOF OF THE NEWEST TRAINS IN THE FLEET TO GUIDE RESCUE CREWS IN THE EVENT OF A TRAIN WRECK THAT WOULD HAVE RESCUERS CUTTING THROUGH THE ROOF OF THE TRAIN TO GET US OUT, THEY LABELED IT WITH INSTRUCTIONS STATING " NO CUTTING TOOLS THAT USE OPEN FLAMES " AND " BEFORE CUTTING ALERT PASSENGERS " WOW!! I AM THANKFUL THE LIRR/MTA IS WORRIED FOR MY SAFETY IN THE EVENT THAT THE TRAIN IS SO SCREWED UP IT WILL TAKE A RESCUE COMPANY TO CUT US FROM THE WRECK THRU THE ROOF ! AND IF I AM CONCIOUS I WILL HEAR THEM KNOCK OR WARN ME BEFORE CUTTING ME OUT! AND TELLING THEM NOT TO USE CUTTING TORCHES HMMMM SMART SINCE MOST FIRE EXSTINGUISHERS ARE MISSING OR OUT OF SERVICE GOD FORBID WE NEED TO PUT OUT A FIRE STARTED BY A RESCUE TORCH! OR IF WE GOT A BURN, WE WOULD HAVE TO WAIT TO GET BASIC FIRST AID SINCE THAT DOES NOT EXSIST ON THE LIRR, SERIOUSLY I HOPE TO GOD THIS SCENARIO NEVER EVER PLAYS OUT BUT EVEN THE MOST CAREFUL TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS ALL HAVE ACCIDENTS AND RAIL SERVICE IS NOT THE MOST CAREFUL OF TRANSPORTATION AND UNFORTUNATELY THOSE INVOLVED IN MISHAPS WITH TRAINS OUTSIDE AT CROSSING GATES OR ON THE TRACKS ARE VERY SERIOUS AND USUALLY FATAL AND THE LIRR BETTER BE SPENDING TIME AND MONEY ON KEEPING US SAFE WHILE WE COMMUTE

CASTLE GREYSKULL (RONKONKOMA'S NEW STATION)
RONKONKOMA STATION HAS SEEN A LOT CHANGE IN 175 YEARS ACTUALLY 100 YRS AGO RIDERS WERE TREATED WITH RESPECT AND THE SERVICE WAS MUCH BETTER, NOW AFTER TEARING DOWN AND BULLDOZING A NEIGHBORHOOD WE ARE LEFT WITH A GENERIC LOOK OF ASPHALT AND CONCRETE AND NO BENCHES ON THE PLAT FORM THE ORIGINAL PLANS OF THE RAILROAD TO USE THE STATION AS A EASTERN ANCHOR WITH AN OFFICE COMPLEX HOUSING THE DEPARTMENTS THAT WORK WITHIN THE DAY TO DAY OPERATIONS LOOKS TO BE FORGOTTEN. THE MAIN TERMINAL BUILDING BEAUTIFUL FROM A DISTANCE WAS TO AT LEAST HOUSE THE RAILROAD POLICE DEPT, NO POLICE USE THE STATION AND YOU COULD TRY TO BANG ON THE DOR MARKED PD AND NOT SEE A POLICE OFFICER FOR DAYS-NOT TOO SMART IN A TIME OF TERRORISM WITH SPECIFIC THREATS TO MASS TRANSIT IN AND AROUND NYC, THE ONLY CURRENT OCCUPANTS OF THE RONKONKOMA STATION IS A JANITOR, TICKET VENDORS, A MANAGER, ONLY THERTE DURING THE HOURS OF 5;30? - 8:00pm (THESE TIMES CHANGE) AND THE CAVERNOUS WAITING AREA IS LOCKED EVEN IN THE COLDEST WEATHER AFTER 7:00 THIS STATION HAS THE DISTINCT TITLE OF THE FARTHEST EAST THE ELECTRIFIED LINE RUNS, AND THE TITLE OF CASTLE GREYSKULL HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE MASSIVE CONCRETE STRUCTURE HOUSING THE PLATFORMS WERE WATER HAS ERODED AND FROZE CRACKING THE THE WHOLE STRUCTURE IN PLACES THAT COULD BE UNSAFE NEVERMIND THE PIGEONS LIVING UNDER THE CROSS WALK SPANNING RAILROAD AVE TO THE PARKING STRUCTURE,PIGEON CRAP IS EATING AWAY AT EVERYTHING AND POSSIBLY THE STEEL HOLDING THIS BRIDGE, THE UPPER LEVEL OF THE CONCRETE STRUCTURE WAS OPEN TO THE ELEMENTS FOR YEARS DURING THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE STATION AND WIRE MESH USED IN PRISON OR SECURITY APPLICATIONS COVERS THE OPENINGS SOMETIME AFTER PLEXIGLASS WAS ADDED TO BLOCK THE WIND, ANOTHER GREAT FEATURE THE ELEVATOR HAS BECOME A URINAL FOR THOSE LOCKED OUT OF THE STATIONS BATHROOMS AND A 8' BY 12'foot SIGN WITH A LARGE RED REVOLVING LIGHT AND TEN INCH LETTERING STATING IF THIS ALARM OR LIGHT IS ACTIVATED CALL 911 IN THE PAST THIS HAS CAUSED LARGE HEADACHES FOR SCPD AND RONKONKOMA VFD FROM FALSE ALARMS AND CONSTANT BREAKDOWNS,
ANOTHER ISSUE IS THE STORES THAT RENT SPACE FROM THE LIRR ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SELL ITEMS THAT OTHER STORES SELL AS SPECIALTIES EXAMPLE NO DONUTS AT THE BAGEL STORE AND NO BAGELS AT THE DUNKIN DONUTS THIS COUPLED WITH PRICES USUALLY RESERVED FOR SPORT STADIUMS IS IN EFFECT 2.25 FOR A COCA-COLA 1.50 FOR A SMALL COFFEE 5.00 FOR A BREAKFAST SANDWICH THAT BY THE WAY CAN BE BROUGHT ACROSS THE STREET FOR 2.50 AMD IT GOES ON AND ON!!
ONE COMPLIMENT I HAVE IS FOR THE TAXI STAND THAT PAYS A OUTRAGEOUS AMOUNT TO BE THE CAB COMPANY THAT GETS UP FRONT PARKING! "VILLAGE TAXI" THE PRICES VARY DUE TO WEATHER OR DAY OR NIGHT FARES BUT A SAFE AREA FOR RIDERS AND THOSE SEEKING RELIEF FROM POOR WEATHER IS AVAILABLE IN THE COMPANY WAITING AREA ITS NOT THE MOST COMFORTABLE,BUT ITS SAFER THAN STANDING OUTSIDE THE LOCKED STATION, HAS READING MATERIAL, THE DISPATCHER WONT RUSH YOU OUT AND SEEMS FRIENDLY ENOUGH, AND IF YOU NEED A SNACK VENDING MACHINES ARE LOCATED THERE AND THE PRICES ARE NORMAL!
JUST REMEMBER AND ASK YOURSELF WHY IS OUR FARES CONTINUALLY RAISED WHEN SERVICE IS REDUCED, AND WHY IS ONE OF THE LIRRs MAIN HUBS USED BY TENS OF THOUSANDS DAILY 60+ TRAINS A DAY AND NO ADMINISTRATIVE,PUBLIC SAFETY,EMPLOYEES LOCATED AT THE STATION? NO CONTROL POINT WITH OPERATION AND SAFETY MONITORED AT THE STATION? THE STATION BUILT !N THE MID EIGHTIES AND ORIGINALLY OPENED BACK IN 1883 A HUNDRED AND ALMOST 30 YEARS AGO STILL WAITING TO BE TAKEN AS A SERIOUS EASTERN TERMINAL? AND MOST IMPORTANTLY WHY??? WOULD THE RAILROAD LABEL PART OF THE MAIN STATION BUILDING RAILROAD POLICE WHEN AT MOST THEY USE IT TO DROP OFF THEIR CIVILIAN CLOTHES AND NO POLICE ARE STATIONED THEIR ON A 24 HOUR BASIS IN A TIME IN OUR COUNTRY WHEN OUR COUNTRY IS UNDER SIEGE BY THOSE WHO WANT TO KILL INNOCENT PEOPLE AND THOSE WHO REPOND TO THESE ATTACKS, WHEN A RAILROAD SPONSORS A PROGRAM OF "IF YOU SEE SOMETHING SAY SOMETHING" WELL GUESS WHAT LIRR/MTA I SEE SOMETHING AND I AM SAYING SOMETHING AND IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO STOP MILKING THE WORKING MAN PULL YOUR HEADS FROM EACH OTHERS ASSES AND DO SOMETHING " IN THE INTEREST OF THOSE WHO RIDE YOUR TRAINS " NOT GIVING YOURSELVES A RAISE !!!!!!!

4/23 ALL RONKONKOMA BRANCH TRAIN SERVICE SUSPENDED
FRIDAY EVENING AND SERVICE IS SUSPENDED
AGAIN THE LIRR DROPS THE BALL SUSPENDING SERVICE WITHOUT EXPLANATION AND EVEN IN THEIR STATION INFORMATION WAS NOT TO BE FOUND AS COMMUTERS TRY TO GET INFO FROM INFORMATION,HIS SUGGESTION TAKE ANOTHER BRANCH,REAL GOOD ALTERNATIVE.THE BEST IS YET TO COME AS THE CROWD GREW BIGGER AS MORE MAIN LINE TRAINS ARE CANCELLED THE LIRR PULLS A QUICK ONE BY BOARDING COMMUTERS ON A TRAIN AND THEN GETTING US TO HICKSVILLE AND SUSPENDING SERVICE PAST HICKSVILLE PEOPLE GREW IRATE AND CURSED THE LIRR AND THEN THEY MAKE US GET OFF OUR TRAIN AND WAIT FOR A PACKED TRAIN HEADING TOWARDS HICKSVILLE, KEY WORD PACKED! WHEN IT DID ARRIVE 10 MINUTES LATER IT WAS PACKED TO THE GILLS AND NOBODY WAS GOING TO GET OFF NO MATTER WHAT, THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE THAT WAS PACKED INTO EACH CAR HAD TO BE ILLEGAL AND MUST OF BEEN SINCE THE TRAIN DID NOT GO OVER 30 MPH TRN CREW AND LIRR REPRESENTATIVES WERE NON EXSISTANT AND THE TRAIN WAS OVER 90 MINUTES LATE ALL TOGETHER, I HAD PICTURES OF HOW CROWDED IT WAS AND MISPLACED THE FILE I WILL POST IT WHEN I FIND IT THE PICTURES UP TOP ARE AT PENNSYLVANIA STATION ONE IS THE GENIUS INFORMATION REP BEHIND BULLETPROOF GLASS AND THE OTHER IS THE STANDARD LIRR REP, THE "SIGN" THAT EXPLAINS OR ANNOUNCES THE PROBLEM ALWAYS A HALF HOUR BEHIND INITIAL PROBLEMS.
THESE PROBLEMS ARE GETTING WORSE EVERY DAY AND THE LIRR IS CUTTING SERVICE AND SCREAMING POVERTY, THE LONG ISLAND PAPER NEWSDAY HAS A GREAT ARTICLE ON THE AMOUNT OF MONEY LIRR PAYS OUT TO OT AND THE LIRR PRESIDENTS SALARY IS LOWER THAN THE AVG. LIRR EMPLOYEE ANNUAL SALARY! GO TO NEWSDAY.COM AND SEARCH LIRR FOR A GREAT STORY I WILL TRY TO SETUP A LINK.
ANOTHER COMMUTE FROM HELL ON THE LIRR, LIES,LIES,LIES.
here we go again what started out as a early commute home wound up with a standing room only train stopped at wyandanch, doors closed for just over 45 minutes with the insane repeated reason muttered over the train PA every 2 minutes- "we are being held here due to signal trouble" somebody heard we may have hit someone so that rumor made the gossip lively, traincrew ran around the outside and the only reason the doors were shut was probably because the train crew did not want to give information or were scared that they had driven us insane with the repeated announcement-45+ minutes passed and we were again under way at a crawl, people had to stand since penn. and our train crew made sure they got a fare from all those without seats and kudos to those who refused to pay since they were standing! we get to central islip and are told that service is suspended between C.I, and ronkonkoma and it was due now to police investigation! we sat for 15 minutes when we were told to get off the train and wait on the south side for a eastbound train people herded to the only pedestrian bridge and crossed in mass to the other side people fell luggage careened down stairs and the south platform became very unsafe as more and more people made the trek over the bridge, the danger was great as people tried to move along the platform causing some to get close to the edge and as the train pulled in the overcrowded platform became dangerous, was the lirr railroad on scene to help transition the move and give information? NO! to make the platform safe? NO! what about having buses meet the train at CI and get the passengers to Ronkonkoma? NO! they had plenty of time and with such a high fare rate LIRR customer information liasons should have been on scene with buses to get us home after delaying us over an hour ! and the reason why we were delayed didnt wash with with the LIRR leery commuter since nobody saw police between stations or the tell tale signs of such activity! once again sticking it to joe commuter! ya know we are not rich and our time is precious since we spend our days working in nyc and commuting, THE LIRR ALWAYS STICKS IT TO THE WORKING CLASS AND MAYBE THEY SHOULD TAKE A LOOK AT LETTING SOMEONE ELSE RUN THE LIRR!
THE LONG ISLAND RAIL ROAD- MTA SCREWING IT'S RIDERS FOR OVER A HUNDRED YEARS!
THE LONG ISLAND RAIL ROAD WAY OVER A HUNDRED YEARS AS THE ONLY CHOICE TO THE COMMUTER HEADING IN TO NYC, COMMUTING INTO NYC FOR OVER A DECADE THE INEPTNESS AND POOR SERVICE OF THE LIRR HAS MADE ME GRAY PREMATURLY,OTHER COMMUTERS AND MYSELF HAVE BEEN PUSHED TO A POINT OF MADNESS WHEN EVERYDAY WE BREAKDOWN , WATCH A CONDUCTER CHARGE A PERSON UP TO TWENTY DOLLARS FOR PURCHASING A TICKET ONBOARD AND THE LACK OF INFORMATION WHEN OUR TRAIN IS STUCK UNDER THE EAST RIVER FOR OVER AN HOUR OR STOPPED BETWEEN STATIONS AS A CONDUCTOR SAYS OVER AND OVER THE SAME THING "DUE TO SIGNAL TROUBLE WE ARE STOPPED AND WAITING FOR THEM TO FIX IT AND AS SOON AS THEY DO WE WILL BE UNDERWAY" REPEATED OVER AND OVER UNTIL PEOPLE ARE PUSHED TO A POINY OF NEAR VIOLENCE AND THE CONDUCTOR BARRICADES HIMSELF IN THE AREA BETWEEN CARS, OR FORCED TO WATCH AS A PERSON IS DYING AND A FIRST AID KIT IS NOT AVAILABLE , WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF A TERRORIST GOT ON THE TRAIN WITH ILL INTENT (REMEMBER COLIN FERGUSSEN) THE ONLY SAFETY MEASURE I NOTICED WAS THE CUT ON THE DOTTED LINE ON THE ROOF SO IF AN EMERGENCY WHERE COMMUTERS ARE TRAPPED INSIDE THE TRAIN THE CUTTING TORCH WILL NOT HIT ANYTHING THAT MAY CAUSE A FIRE. THANS LIRR FOR YOUR CONCERN...I PROMISE TO TELL WHOMEVER WILL LISTEN ABOUT THE DANGER AND LACK OF MEDICAL GEAR THE LIRR HAS, I WILL EXPOSE THE LIES AND INEPTNESS OF THE LIRR PROPAGANDA MACHINE,THE HIGH FARES NO SERVICE AND THE DANGER WE COMMUTERS FACE FROM TERRORISM OR OTHER LIKE THE TRAIN THAT SAT IN BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WITH NO POWER OR HEAT AND EVEN THOUGH THE TRAIN WAS LESS THAN 100 FEET OUT OF THE STATION AND THE LIRR LEFT THEM FOR OVER 4 HOURS AS PEOPLE CALLED FOR HELP FROM THE TRAIN! THAT IS THIS BLOMISSION TO EXPOSE THE CHARLATTANS OF THE LIRR!!
